Broiler Chickens
Broiler chickens are chickens that are breed in a factory,  industrial barn or in a commercial broiler, there can be up to 5,000 to 50,000 birds They are killed when they reach slaughter-weight at between five to seven weeks of age. They never go outside and never see the light of day. The birds are all crammed in a small space with larges numbers of them. Each bird has only a half-square foot (465 sq cm) of space. They trim the chicks beaks with causes acute pain. In 2012, over 643 million chickens were slaughtered in Canada.

Is there any laws

against this

anywhere?

First of all, there should be better laws of preventing the suffering of animals. You have a responsibility to keep chickens safe from predators.

You also must have a license to own chickens. You can have a maximum of 4 hens, and you cant have them older then 4 months.

With Backyard slaughtering it isn't allowed, If you have 50 or more chickens you must register your flock with the GB Poultry Register.

Anything that is over 60 pounds can not be hung alive, and if someone is keeping and hiding chickens in there backyard it is illegal to do so.

Does this damage the

chickens mentally?

They stop the birds having nature; behaviors. With so many birds crammed into one place there is not chance for a pecking order to form. They get stressed and become aggressive with out one.

Broiler chickens suffer from leg and skeletal problems. Because of fast muscle growth, they can have heart attacks. Another problem is ascites, It is the problem when the blood doesn't move fast enough or get everywhere. It can lead to a slow, miserable and pain full death.

They don't clean often so massive amounts of manure is all over the floor from thousands of birds. They get litter burns from the high moisture and ammonia from the manure amounts. The air quality causes respiratory infections.

The lights are on for 23 hours a day witch gives the birds distress and causes jet-lag.

When did all this

start?

Mass Production for "animals" started in the 1790"s when people used to kill for food, but when it all really started to happened with cruelty and slaughtering started in the 1913.

People have been trying to stop this for years but not just for chickens but for all animals. People more people are trying to stop the cruelty  of the animals, not so much the slaughter.
